More information is available on this project at our Let's Connect Page.
Survey #1 is complete. Thanks to the 1,250 people who participated. The results showed 86.6 percent of respondents support a new indoor aquatic centre in the Alberni Valley to replace the existing Echo Aquatic Centre. The breakdown and other results can be found on the ACRD's Let's Connect page.
The first survey highlighted that the new facility should be family-friendly and fun, have a balanced focus on leisure, skill development, recreational swimming, and fitness, be accessible to all ages and abilities, and affordable for the community.
Survey #2
Check out the ACRD's Let's Connect page for the second survey. This survey will walk participants through options for building design and elements to add to their design. It will share high-level costs and will provide them with household cost estimates based on the facility they designed.
This is an opportunity for residents to Dive into the Future and provide guidance on future visioning, financing, and governance as the feasibility of a replacement for our current Echo Aquatic Centre is assessed. The information gathered in the survey will inform the future of aquatics in the Alberni Valley.
Paper copies of this survey are not available with the second survey because of its interactive style. If you are not able to complete the survey online, we can help you. You can either all the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District (250-720-2700 and 2008 Fifth Ave. Port Alberni) to arrange to come to our office to complete the survey, or you can come to our open house on November 29 and fill it out there. Someone will be available at both sites to help you complete the survey.
Open House - Let us know your thoughts
We are hosting an open house on November 29 from 4-7 pm in the Dogwood Room at Echo Centre. Make sure to come by, let us hear what you think, and learn more about the project and next steps.
This is a great opportunity to find out more about what we heard in Phase 1 of the project, and then fill in our interactive survey.
You can also go to our Let's Connect Page if you want to ask us a question or share an idea.
Additional feedback can be sent to us by emailing aquatics@acrd.bc.ca
Alberni Valley Aquatic Centre Advisory Committee
In order to support this process, the ACRD has formed the Alberni Valley Aquatic Centre Advisory Committee. This committee will facilitate participation from local government, First Nations, and community interests within the Alberni Valley to share information and gather input on various aspects of a potential aquatic centre facility.
