Revitalization

  • In 2017/2018, the Backcountry Horsemen, in partnership with the ACRD, took the lead in the revitalization of the Evergreeen Riding Arena.
  • This revitalization included: leveling the area, compacted gravel base, addition of 6-8 inch layer of sand, and fencing for the arena.
  • The ACRD contributed roughly $10,000.
  • The Backcountry Horsemen contributed roughly $2,500 and hundreds of hours of in-kind labour.

Maintenance

  • The ACRD holds a small annual budget within the Beaver Creek Community Parks Service to support general maintenance and/or purchasing of supplies (replacement boards, gates, sand etc.) for the riding ring.
  • The Backcountry Horsemen volunteer their time preforming various small maintenance requirements and occasional organized work bees.
  • Maintenance is provided by volunteers working under the Backcountry Horsemen organization in partnership with the ACRD, and these volunteers are covered by ACRD liability insurance while they preform maintenance works.
  • The Backcountry Horsemen hold a gate key for the purposes of maintenance only.

Operations

  • The riding arena is public and use is provided on first-come first-serve basis.
  • We ask that accommodations are made to share the arena to ensure everyone has equal opportunities for space and time.
  • There is no formal booking system for the arena.
  • If an event is planned that requires use of the arena please contact the ACRD and Backcountry Horsemen to confirm if the event is an acceptable use for the public arena.
  • Horse trailer parking is to be restricted to the gravel lot off Fayette Road.

Arena Use Etiquette

  • Clean up after your horse and deposit manure in designated area.
  • Barrel races: Rake and tidy any divets made after your runs.
  • Barrels should be returned to one corner of the arena after use.
  • Return all equipment to non-sanded area after use.
  • Close gates when leaving.
  • Do not tie horses to the rails, use the posts provided.
  • Let's work together to keep this area PERFECT for all users?

Thank You!
