Emergency Vehicle Kit

Create an emergency kit for each vehicle you have. The items on this list are in addition to the supplies in your home disaster kit. Keep the following in a separate pack in your vehicle:

• booster cables and tools
• ice scraper and brush
• shovel (folding, if possible)
• sand or kitty litter (which is light and does not freeze)
• tow chain
• warning lights or flares
• fuel line de-icer
• bottled water (at least four litres)
• canned food, dried fruit, nuts, manual can opener
• food bars (granola, chocolate, etc.)
• outdoor clothing (including footwear)
• “space” or foil blanket
• first aid kit and medications
• flashlight and space batteries
• waterproof matches and candles
• toilet tissue, towellettes and zip-loc bags
• money, especially coins
• road maps
• pen/pencil and paper

NOTE: Keep each vehicle’s gas tank at least ½ full at all times.
