There is not to much to report as the area has been very calm over the past week.

The BC Wildfire Service will continue to have a small crew working to mop up any hot spots that occur on the Arbutus Summit fire for the next 5 days, so we may continue to see some smoldering throughout the days and evenings.

There has be very little activity except for monitoring of the Turtle Lake, Beaufort and North Taylor Arm fires.

Unless the conditions change there will be no further updates.

Short Term Vacation Rentals

Nightly, weekend, and weekly short term vacation rental (STR) accommodations on residential properties are increasing. Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District (ACRD) staff are increasingly receiving more complaints regarding the STR of properties inconsistent with residential zoning for single family dwellings.

In September and October 2017 ACRD residents and property owners were invited and encouraged to participate in the STR public consultation process. The ACRD hosted open houses in Sproat Lake, Bamfield and Long Beach, and provided an online comment form for those who couldn't attend (more information on the public consultation process can be found here). All of the input received throughout the public consultation process has been compiled into a Short Term Vacation Rentals Consultation Summary and Recommendations Report, which was considered by the ACRD Board of Directors on November 22, 2017.
