Tsunami Warning SystemThe tsunami warning system in Port Alberni consists of four towers positioned at strategic locations at the edge of the tsunami inundation zone. Towers are located at Golden St. and Nelson Rd, Margaret St and Arrowsmith Rd, 4th Ave and Redford St., and Kingsway Ave and 2nd Ave. The system is maintained by the Port Alberni Fire Department. It is tested silently every Monday and audibly on the first Wednesday every month at 1:00pm. It has the capability to broadcast both recorded and live messages. In the event of a tsunami warning, a three minute long siren will sound followed by directions to go immediately to higher ground. Radio93.3 the Peak The Peak is an important part of the Alberni Valley Emergency Plan. In the event of an emergency Peak staff will immediately begin broadcasting local information live, day or night. State of the art equipment is in place to ensure the capacity to provide this service to the Alberni Valley including a back up transmitter and generator at the 3rd and Strathern studio. They will be in direct contact with the Emergency Operations Centre in a disaster event from the response through the recovery phase.
