What is Air Pollution?
| WHAT IS AIR POLLUTION?
Air pollution consists of undesirable airborne particles, liquids, and gases with chemical properties that are harmful to human health and the environment.
Particulate matter (PM) is the most serious kind of air pollution in British Columbia. Most other airborne pollutants are contained within this category. Although they generate specific health risks related to their chemistry, fine particulate matter initiates a broad range of predictable negative health effects related to the extremely tiny physical size of the particles.
The amount of PM in the air is directly linked to overall air quality and to related health outcomes for resident communities. It is the main air quality concern in B.C.
